List of Beltline projects includes trail construction, design and park expansion
Out of the 2016 bonds the city plans to issue for Atlanta BeltLine, Inc., most of the money earmarked for capital projects will be used for trail design and construction.
The Eastside Trail Extension and Westside construction will get more than $18 million, while $11.3 million will go to design the Southside and Northside Trails.
Last week, ABI’s board approved a resolution that would allow the city to issue about $145 million in bonds. The money will be used for debt refinancing, capital projects, and other items, with about $11 million going towards affordable housing. The money will used over the next three years.
The resolution does not say how much of the $145 million is earmarked for capital projects, but an attached list outlining the cost of each of the capital projects totals $75.3 million.
In addition to trail construction and design, ABI plans to spend just over $10 million on the design and construction of Enota Park. As it exists now, Enota Park is a small park between the Westview and West End neighborhoods, near where the Westside Trail is under construction.
Plans are to expand the park into a nearly 9-acre area that will have a multi-purpose play area, event lawn, pavilion, walking trails and large woodland preserve. The park will also highlight Proctor Creek, which has one of its headwaters in the park. Once completed, the Westside Trail will border the eastern side of Enota Park.
Another ongoing project, Murphy Crossing, will get $6.3 million for design and site improvements. Located at the southern end of the Westside Trail, Murphy Crossing is the site of the former state farmer’s market.
