Atlanta Public Schools looks to fill 400 spots on school governance teams
Atlanta Public Schools is seeking candidates to run for approximately 400 positions on local school governance teams, according to an APS press release.
As part of the district’s Charter System operating model, more than 700 parents, educators and community members serve on the teams, known as GO Teams, the release said. Started in 2016, GO Teams help develop their school’s strategic plan, offer input on budgets and develop innovative and unique solutions to address student needs.
In June, approximately 400 terms will expire. Candidacy declaration for these seats is open now through February 23, 2018, with online elections to follow.
Specifically, the district is seeking candidates to run for two parent/guardian seats and two educator seats at each school, the release said. Community members are also needed and can register to express interest in serving. Candidates for these seats are nominated by the principal and approved by the team.
All current GO Team members who have completed their term are eligible to declare candidacy and seek re-election for the available two-year term positions. No experience is necessary, and training and tools are provided.
Parents, educators and community members interested in participating on a GO Team can register online here through February 23. Virtual voting for declared candidates will be open March 20-26.
