‘Keep Atlanta Black’ robocall targets white voters

A robocall purporting to be on behalf of mayoral candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms has sparked outrage and calls for an investigation by the candidate.
The call targeted primarily east Atlanta and Buckhead voters, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Atlanta Loop’s director of ad sales Jeff Cochran received the call at his home and sent this recording:
The message says, “Keep Atlanta Black. Vote Keisha Lance Bottoms. A vote for Ceasar Mitchell is a wasted vote. Only Keisha can stop the white takeover of city hall. On Nov. 7, vote Keisha Lance Bottoms to keep Atlanta black.”
The ad says it was paid for by “Citizens for Keisha.”
A spokesperson for Bottoms’ campaign said, “This is a dirty campaign trick. This did NOT come from our campaign!”
A spokesperson for Mitchell’s campaign pinned the ad on Bottoms, however.
“Ms. Bottoms is simply verifying what we know to be true: that I am the strongest Democrat in this race and poised for a run-off against Mary Norwood,” the spokesperson said. “It is sad and unfortunate that she is playing the race card to drum up support. Unlike Ms. Bottoms, I will be a mayor who serves in the best interest of ALL Atlantans.”
According to the AJC, Bottoms has called for the attorney general to investigate the ad.
