Police: Carjacking suspect surprised victim by jumping out of SUV’s cargo space

Atlanta Police are looking for a carjacking suspect who surprised his victim by jumping out of the cargo space of her 2015 Toyota Rav-4.
The incident occurred on Feb. 12. The victim walked into the Police Department’s Zone 6 Precinct and told officers her vehicle was stolen. She said she was leaving her home in Decatur and traveling northbound on Estoria Street Southeast, crossing over Wylie Street, when a man exited the cargo area of her vehicle.
“She immediately placed her vehicle in ‘park’ and ran out into the street,” the police report says. “At that point the male entered the driver seat of her vehicle and fled the scene. ”
A witness allowed the victim to get into her vehicle and then attempted to block the suspect from leaving the scene.
The suspect “reversed into oncoming traffic and drove westbound on Wylie Street,” the police report says.
“As the suspect fled the scene the witness continued to follow the vehicle but lost sight soon after entering southwest Atlanta,” the report says. “The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 18-19 years of age, with no facial hair and a low haircut. At the time of the incident the suspect was wearing a gray shirt. A lookout has been issued for the stolen vehicle and investigators are pursuing all available leads.”
