A Michigan man has been charged with making threats to murder CNN employees in Atlanta after accusing the network of being “Fake News.”
WXYZ-TV Channel 7 Detroit obtained a copy of the affidavit that was recently unsealed in federal court.
According to the FBI agent who wrote made affidavit, the suspect is Brandon Griesemer. The agent wrote that in September he allegedly called a mosque in Ann Arbor and made “derogatory comments” about the mosque and Muslims.
On Jan. 9, at 3:06 p.m. a man called CNN in Atlanta using the same number used to call the mosque. The caller allegedly told the operator, “Fake news. I’m coming to gun you all down. Fuck you, fuckin’ ni***rs.” He allegedly called back three minutes later and said CNN employees should kill themselves. Then, according to the affidavit, he said, “I am on my way right now to gun the fuckin’ CNN cast down. Fuck you.” The employee asked for the man’s name and he replied, “Fuck you. I am coming to kill you” before hanging up.
There were more calls with similar threats. The investigator alleges the man called CNN a total of 22 times on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10, and four of the calls contained threats.
A man claiming to be Griesemer’s father told the Washington Post that his son “didn’t mean any of it.” He said his family does not own guns. To read that story, click here.
CNN said in a statement that it takes any threats against its employees “extremely seriously.”
“This one is no exception,” the company said. “We have been in touch with local and federal law enforcement throughout, and have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of our people.”
