National employer-led coalition to host employment opportunity fair for Atlanta youth

The 100,000 Opportunities Initiative, a coalition made up of some of the country’s top companies and foundations, will host an opportunity fair in Atlanta to help bring employment opportunities to the city’s youth.
According to a press release from the coalition, the Atlanta Opportunity Fair will feature 30 different employers from companies like FedEx, Target and Nordstrom. The companies will conduct job interviews, which, at past events, have lead to hundreds of on-the-spot job offers. The jobs include full-time and part-time entry-level positions available across the Atlanta metro area.
The event will also feature dozens of free employment and education resources, including one-on-one resume and interview coaching, tips on business attire, the chance to build an online profile with LinkedIn’s experts and more.
The day-long job and resource fair is targeted toward young people between the ages of 16 to 24 who face systemic barriers to employment.
The fair is a part of the coalition’s larger effort to provide employment opportunities for young people nationwide, since an estimated 4.6 million young Americans are not in school or at work, including 78,000 in the Atlanta metro area or 11 percent of youth, the release said.
According to the release, more than 175,000 youth have found jobs, internships or higher education opportunities through the coalition’s efforts to date, of which more than 4,500 received on-the-spot offers at the six hiring fairs. Video of previous fairs is available on the 100,000 Opportunities YouTube page to give youth an idea of what to expect on site.
The fair will take place on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center. Anyone interested in attending can now register for free here.
