Police stepping up enforcement after two Georgia Tech students are robbed at gunpoint

Atlanta and Georgia Tech Police are stepping up enforcement following the armed robbery of two students on Wednesday night.
The robbery occurred around midnight.
According to police, two victims were approached at the entrance of a parking garage near 470 16TH Street NW when they were approached by two suspects. Both suspects were armed.
The suspects took two MacBook Pro laptops, a gold iPhone 5S and a silver iPhone 6, apartment keys and a wallet from the victims. According to police, one of the victims got on his knees and begged the suspect not to shoot him.
The suspects were described as black males in their 20s. One was wearing all black clothes, including a hoodie. The other wore blue jeans and a grey hoodie.
“The victims stated that the suspects parked their vehicle on 16TH ST side before they approached them at the above location,” the Police Department said.
The Police Department has announced plans to beef up security around campus. According to APD:
Zone 5 is aware of the recent robberies in Home Park and is working closely with the Robbery Unit to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. In the meantime, we have taken the following proactive steps to counter the trend:
– Initiated a joint APD / Georgia Tech PD detail in neighborhood where the robberies have occurred
– Deployed mobile camera trailers connected to the APD Video Integration Center
– Assigned a discretionary unit team to the neighborhood to supplement the regular patrol resources
All citizens are encouraged to report suspicious persons and vehicles to 9-1-1. Observant citizens are key to combating criminal activity. Timely calls to 911 with a detailed description of suspicious persons and vehicles are often key in making robbery arrests.
