Rural Georgia cheesemaker plans to move near Westside Trail

A rural Georgia cheesemaker is bringing curds and presses to urban Atlanta next year.
Southern Aged, formerly known as Nature’s Harmony, will begin the buildout of their new creamery in early January, according to co-owner Julie Schoen.
Now located in Elberton, GA, they will move about 90 miles west to the Lee + White Development, a mixed-use development at the corner of Lee and White Street near the Westside Trail.
“We have always had the goal to create an urban creamery, where we can be close to our chefs and bring the craft of cheesemaking to food lovers in the city,” Schoen wrote in an email. “With the imminent opening of the new West End portion of the Beltline, the time just seemed right. There is no better place for our new creamery than The Beltline. The Beltline has become the center of the Atlanta community, and it is absolutely the key ingredient in the evolution of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods.”
Southern Aged makes European-style cheeses, special edition collaborative cheeses and fresh cheese curds all by hand.
Lee + White Development will house other local food producers including Monday Night Brewing, Doux South Pickles, and Honeysuckle Gelato.
