Westside Warmup will Showcase Southwest Atlanta’s Communities and Culture
In anticipation of the city’s Super Bowl festivities, The Westside Warmup will celebrate southwest Atlanta’s community and culture with free events on Friday, Jan. 25.
“With an estimated $2 billion in overall impact anticipated in the next few weeks, ABI [Atlanta Beltline Inc.] wanted to help facilitate an event in historic southwest Atlanta for community businesses to take advantage of the Super Bowl economy,” ABI’s interim President and CEO Clyde Higgs said in a statement. “The retail, dining, business, and arts destinations are world-class. We look forward to showing them off to Atlanta and the world as we welcome the big game.”
The celebration will showcase the food, music, art and local businesses of Atlanta’s historic West End neighborhood, according to program materials. The massive party will take place across three venues near the Beltline’s Westside trail. Events and attractions include:
- From 4 to 8 p.m. at the StationSoccer fields located at the end of the south parking lot of the West End MARTA Station, children’s soccer matches will be taking place with hot dogs and other local food and drink available for purchase.
- From 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lee+White campus, patrons can enjoy Jazz music performances by the Atlanta Music Project, a happy hour event at Monday Night Garage, a football skills zone competition for student athletes, a live radio broadcast from WCLK FM 91.9 and various local food and drink vendors.
- From 6 to 10 p.m., live music and artist performances will take over 640 West Cafe, and a vendor market with over 40 local artists, businesses and makers sharing their wares.
“The Westside Warmup is a unique way for us to shine the spotlight on some of the small businesses and attractions that make Atlanta’s Southside special,” Eloisa Klementich, president and CEO of Invest Atlanta, said in a statement. “With the support of City of Atlanta economic development programs, the area continues to grow, and we are glad residents and visitors alike will get this opportunity to experience the sights and heritage of the Southside leading up to the Super Bowl.”
The use of alternative transportation is encouraged, according to program materials. All three venues are located within walking distance of the West End MARTA station, and free pedicabs will be circulating to carry party goers from event to event. For more information, click here.
