Wylie Street lane closures planned for Eastside Trail Construction

This story has been updated.
Atlanta BeltLine Inc. says there will be lane closures on Wylie Street, beginning Aug. 1 and lasting about six weeks. The closures are part of construction of the southern extension of the Eastside Trail.
The closures will occur on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., a press release from the BeltLine says.
“Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. is constructing the southern extension of the Eastside Trail for one mile in between Irwin Street and Kirkwood Avenue. As part of construction, ABI will be relocating the existing water line under the northern side of Wylie Street to the southern side of the street,” a press release from the BeltLine says. “Moving the water line is necessary to allow for the Eastside Trail on the northern side of the street.”
The press release says there will be single lane closures along the road that will be about 20 to 40 feet long. The closures will occur between Krog Street and Chester Avenue. The northern sidewalk on Wylie Street will be open, the press release says.

When the southern extension of the Eastside Trail is finished, it will add a 1.25-mile trail from Irwin Street to Memorial Drive to the existing trail. After development is completed, the Eastside Trail will total to 3.5 miles, starting with Piedmont Park south and ending with Reynoldstown at Memorial Drive.
Its initial two-mile section opened in 2012, and according to the Atlanta BeltLine Blog, “more than 1.3 million people used the trail in 2015.”
The first phase of the extension construction began in June. The second phase will begin as soon as funding is feasible, swapping out the Fulton Terrace bridge for new trail.
The BeltLine anticipates construction will be completed in 2017.
