Cat cafe coming to Grant Park

A café that offers a cup of specialty coffee and time with purring cats has announced they will open in Grant Park later this year.
Java Cats Café owner Hayden Hilton signed a lease for 415 Memorial Drive SE, Suite C, according to an Eater Atlanta article. The café will be in the same development as Tiny Lizzy’s Cantina and just down the street from Octane Coffee + Little Tart Bakeshop, the article says.
“We will let you know as soon as we have finalized an opening date!” Java Cats Café posted on their Facebook page on Friday.
Hilton raised more than $20,000 in a Kickstarter campaign earlier this year to open the café. According to information about café, customers can either stay in the main café or pay a fee to go into a separate cat lounge to relax, drink coffee and play with the cats.
“To comply with Health Department Regulations, the cat room will be a space that is separate from the café and serving areas,” the Kickstarter page says. “The cat lounge will be a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for the cats and our guests! The two spaces will be separated by a small room with double doors. Cats will never enter the café through this system.”
Java Cats Café is partnering with PAWS Atlanta to foster up to 20 cats in their cat room. All of the cats will be adoptable through PAWS.
The cafe will also serve food products from The Gathering Industries, a non-profit that works with residents from the Atlanta Mission and helps them learn culinary skills while being paid.
