ABI Seeks Development Partner for Westside’s Murphy Crossing

Atlanta BeltLine Inc. (ABI) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to redevelop Murphy Crossing, the 20-acre plot across from the Beltline’s Westside Trail.
The RFP is calling for jobs-driven strategies that will include affordable housing, green spaces, sustainable practices and consideration for public art, according to program materials. A pre-proposal meeting and site visit will be held Dec. 6, downtown in the former Equitable Building, and proposals are due Feb. 1.
ABI began purchasing parts of the site in 2014 during the construction of the Westside Trail, culminating with the purchase of the Georgia Archives site in 2018 project materials indicate. In 2016, the group worked with the U.S. Economic Development Administration and HRA & Advisors to generate a market assessment of the property and establish guidelines for its development.
ABI has consulted with neighborhood leaders to determine the best uses for the site based on the community’s needs for economic development, transportation access, affordable housing and historic preservation, according to program materials. A developer will be selected with these needs in mind, and they will be required to engage with the community during the planning and construction process.
As it stands today, redevelopment activity in the area is estimated to be approximately $300 million, including the Turner Field redevelopment, Warehouse Row and the Fort McPherson Redevelopment. The nearby Westside Trail connects Washington Park to Adair Park and was built in preparation for light rail transit, and serves the Ashby and West End MARTA stations.
