Annual Grant Park festival provides last summer hurrah

Say goodbye to summer with one last family outing at the Grant Park Summer Shade Festival this weekend.
The popular annual festival is back on August 27 and 28 with live music, a 5K run, food trucks, arts market, plenty of beer and a kids’ zone, according to the festival website.
The festival kicks off with a 5K run Saturday morning, with tot trot and stroller race for families with kids.
Known as a place to see up-and-coming bands, Summer Shade will also feature more well-known local bands on its two stages. The line-up includes Flat Duo Jets, Michelle Malone, Kick the Robot and Stonerider.
Kids will find plenty of musicians, artists, and performers on the kids’ stage. They can also take part in crafts and other fun activities.
The festival benefits the Grant Park Conservancy, a non-profit that supports projects and helps protect Atlanta’s oldest park. Grant Park covers 131 acres and is the 4th largest park in metro Atlanta.
Bikes are welcome at the festival, with free parking provided, but the organizers ask that you leave your pets at home.
