The Atlanta Police Department wants to give back to local kids. On Saturday, July 22, APD, along with the local Vertical Church, will host a “Police in the Park” and “Burgers and Backpacks” event, according to an APD press release.
Geared toward children in kindergarten through 12th grade, the back-to-school event will feature games for kids, health screenings, soccer demos, music, fire trucks, Atlanta Police Mounted Patrol, free haircuts and free burgers.
Additionally, the APD will be giving out backpacks with different school supplies, the release said. A parent/ guardian must be present with the child to receive a backpack and supplies, with no exceptions. Backpacks and supplies will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Police in the Park” will take place from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday at 627 English Avenue in Atlanta (the old English Avenue Elementary School).
