STATEMENT ON ATLANTA PUBLIC SCHOOLS REOPENING THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 14 FOLLOWING STORM DAMAGE
Atlanta – Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will reopen Thursday, September 14th and will follow a normal operating schedule. Our operations team has completed a full review of our facilities, buses, technology, and nutrition services in the wake of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irma.
Currently, power has been restored to nearly all APS school campuses. There are five remaining schools without power that we expect to have back online tonight. We are monitoring the power situation at these locations and will inform parents if school is in session before 5 am tomorrow.
Because many buildings were without power, an alternate menu may be provided for students for breakfast and lunch for the next several days. Also, students may experience delays in bus routes due to driver staffing shortages.
We appreciate the patience our families have shown as we have worked to ensure a safe environment for all of our students and staff. We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow!
Fulton County Schools said it also has some schools without power but plans to open on Thursday. Students at those schools will not be required to attend.
Here is the full announcement from Fulton County Schools:
Fulton County Schools will open tomorrow, Thursday, September 14, with the possible exception of four schools that are still without power. Those schools include Conley Hills Elementary, Feldwood Elementary, S.L. Lewis Elementary, and Wolf Creek Elementary.
If the power does not return to those schools by 5:00 a.m., students should not report. Robocall updates will be provided specifically to families in the impacted schools at the following times: 5:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
