Foundation to build homes for police officers

The Atlanta Police Foundation has pledged to build 20-25 homes for police officers in the Westside area of Atlanta by 2020 as part of the Westside Security Plan.
The initiative is part of an ongoing strategy to help officers purchase homes in certain neighborhoods throughout the city, to increase police visibility and to enhance engagement between the police department and Atlanta residents, according to a news release from the foundation.
The foundation is partnering with local builders and contractors to build the homes. Groups such as the Arthur M. Blank Foundation, PulteGroup, Atlanta Housing Authority, Bank of America and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are also partnering in the effort.
A ribbon cutting to commemorate the building of the first houses will soon be scheduled.
The Westside area of Atlanta has seen significant development in recent years. The Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. is currently working on the Westside Trail, a 3-mile section of the trail expected to be finished in 2017.
