Intersection of Eastside Trail and Irwin Street to close starting Monday, March 20
Contractors working on the Eastside Trail will close Irwin Street where it intersects with the trail.
The intersection is located between Sampson Street/Auburn Avenue and Krog Street in the Old Fourth Ward/Inman Park area.
The closure is necessary to complete a portion of the Eastside Trail extension. The closure begins Monday, March 20 and ends April 17. The closure will be in effect 24 hours a day during this time.
Atlanta BeltLine Inc. provided this detour map:
The detour routes are as follows:
– To cross the Eastside Trail at Irwin: If traveling east, turn right at Auburn Avenue, left at Randolph Street, left at Edgewood Avenue, and left at Krog Street. If traveling west, turn left at Krog Street, right at Edgewood Avenue, and right at Auburn Avenue.
– To access the Eastside Trail: The Eastside Trail can be accessed from the west side by way of John Wesley Dobbs Avenue, Highland Avenue, and East Avenue (via Alaska Avenue). Note that only the East Avenue access point is ADA-accessible. The Eastside Trail can be accessed from the east side by way of Elizabeth Street. Use Irwin Street/Lake Avenue, making a left on Elizabeth.
ABI is building the extension from where the trail currently ends at Irwin Street to Kirkwood Avenue.
“As part of this work, ABI’s contractors will install the following: a speed table at the trail crossing; sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and light poles; rapid flashing beacons for a safe pedestrian crossing; a fiber optic duct bank; a new storm line connection to existing storm structure; and existing storm structure rehabilitation,” the announcement from ABI says.
