MARTA hosting station ‘pop-ups’ to gather input for plans to spend $2.6 billion

In November, Atlanta voters overwhelmingly approved a .5 percent sales tax to pay for MARTA expansion.
The transit agency is making plans for the estimated $2.6 billion in revenue the tax is expected to bring in over the next 40 years. Generally, MARTA wants to spend the money on high-capacity rail improvements, new infill rail stations, new buses, and other services.
There will be six station “pop-ups” in February and March to gather public input on the best way to spend the money.
“The additional funding will allow the agency to embark on ambitious expansion and transit enhancements, including enhanced and expanded bus routes, and increased bus frequency services, including later service on the weekends,” the announcement from MARTA says.
