Robbery suspects pistol whip man in Old Fourth Ward park before fleeing toward Beltline

A report released by Atlanta Police details a violent robbery in Old Fourth Ward park that sent a man to the hospital.
The attack happened in the early evening on Feb. 1. According to the report released this week, the victim was walking through Old Fourth Ward Park when he saw two men sitting on a bench in the playground area. As he walked toward them one of the men stood up and walked away while another walked toward him and asked him the time. The victim told the suspects the time and the suspect asked the victim to check his watch. A second suspect came up behind him and “began to encroach upon him,” the report says.
“The victim then stated he believed at this point something was not right and he looked at his watch, gave the time and then began to run and scream for help,” the report says. “The victim then stated the suspects caught him and grabbed him and threw him in the bushes on the side of the street. The victim then stated one of the suspects pulled a gun and flashed it at him and began to strike him over the head with the gun. The victim then stated the suspect put the gun up to the back of his head and he told the suspects to go ahead and take his belongings, which included his wallet with ID and credit cards, briefcase, and Louis Vuitton messenger bag containing a Dell laptop.”
The victim was sent to Grady Hospital for a deep cut on the top of his head. Several witnesses saw the suspects – described as three black men wearing all black clothing – fleeing the scene toward the Beltline.
“The witnesses also stated there was an unknown vehicle stopped down the block that the suspects ran toward, but when they began to yell, the vehicle drove off and the suspects ran the opposite way,” the report says.
The report says witnesses told police the vehicle was a “sedan” but weren’t able to provide any other details about it.
