Pushing to be more environmentally conscious, three beehives will be installed on the top level of Ponce City Market’s parking deck on Tuesday, April 23.
The hives will be placed and maintained by Bee Downtown, an organization working to rebuild healthy honey bee populations, according to company materials. Ponce City Market will be hosting a carnival-style celebration tomorrow to celebrate their newest tenants.
“Every third bite of food we eat is thanks to a honey bee. They’re the backbone of our agricultural system,” Bee Downtown’s Founder, Leigh-Kathryn Bonner, said in a statement. “We’re proud to work with sustainability-focused brands like Ponce City Market and Jamestown to protect these important pollinators and help honey bees thrive in Atlanta.”
Tuesday’s even is free and open to the public. Guests, residents and workers at Ponce City Market are welcome to meet the bees and beekeepers, taste honey, take photos in beekeeping suits and bee costumes and enter several different raffles, according to program materials. The event will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.
Bee Downtown has installed more than 40 beehives and pollinator gardens to the corporate campuses at Delta Air Lines, AT&T, Chick-Fil-A, Cox Enterprises, Intercontinental Exchange, Invesco, Georgia Power, Georgia World Congress Center Authority, and many more.
